Pictures: Musical interviews

Level: Pre-intermediate, Intermediate, Upper intermediate, Advanced Type: Extra

A warmer involving music and role play.

For this, you'll need a short recording of a piece of music that you think is likely to be unfamiliar – e.g. a 'difficult' piece of modern music, or something from a little-known folk music tradition.

Let the class listen and then give them a few minutes to write some questions they would like to ask the composer or performer(s) of the music. Then they pair up and role play the interview with the musician. If you think they'd find it interesting, they could then summarize the content of their interviews for the whole class.
