    My understanding of personalisation is when the learner can apply what is being taught to their own lives. More than that is is a deeper level of meaning, as opposed to a surface level of meaning, hence understanding. For instance, we can learn something by rote, in order to remember it, or we can create a mnuemonic by personalising say the new vocabularly. I guess personalising information allows the learner to access what they have learnt faster and more accurately, and in a sense provides a context for unfamiliar information.     Where I work, at least (in China), I find that the teachers are mostly young and inexperienced and that, while they are ready and willing to do experimentation, they're not really prepared to do research.
