Interactive phonemic chart: British English
Adrian Underhill's Interactive phonemic chart! This excellent teaching tool can be played full-screen and gives clear audio examples of the English phoneme set.
Note: The chart is flash-based and may take a couple of minutes to appear the first time you visit this page. Please be patient – it's worth the wait! Because this is a flash-based chart it means you may not be able to open this on a mobile device. If this is the case, we recommend you use the chart in our Macmillan Sounds app which you can downoad here.

Does anyone know of one of these charts with sounds using an American "R"? Thanks!

Agree with Anonymous about the shwa after the voiceless consonants. Shopper and shop would be the same using this model.
Would be useful to have a separate group for the voiceless consonants.

There seems to be no way to download this stuff! I've been trying intermittently for a couple of hours! That's a pretty frequent phenomenon with a lot more resources, which produces a great deal of frustration!

Potentially terrific but I was concerned to hear the shwa after the voiceless consonants and nasals. I wouldn't use this with my class because of that.

Yes, it's brilliant to have this amazing resource available on line with pronunciation. Mostly appreciated by teachers from outside of the English speaking world and a great resource to recommend to learners for self practice.

It would be nice to see Adrian Underhill's US version of this chart online. That version doesn't contain the 'extra' sounds that are part of RP an not part of (most) AmE.

This is brilliant. I am almost at the end of my CELTA course and have always used this phoneme chart. It's especially useful when preparing your lesson plans. Lora x
