The Road Less Travelled: Episode 1: The phone call

Level: Pre-intermediate, Intermediate

Katie gets a call from her cousin Sal in California, inviting her to move out there. Their conversation is interrupted when Katie’s boyfriend, Mark, arrives home.

I did the first episode of the soap with students today. We got to know the characters and cut out photos from a mag to go with the characters - which was hilarious! Then we listened to the conversation - I had made a new conversation with changes, as you suggested, and it worked very well. This is a great idea.

Thanks for all your great work!

  • Is it possible to download the mp3 file onto my computer or do I have to be connected to the internet to hear the audio file during my lessons? When I click on "click here to download" the audio just starts playing. I don't have internet access in my classrooms.

    Thanks, Christina.

  • Dear gep,

This seems to be working for us. The transcripts are in the pdf file under Related resources. If you are having problems opening it, please make sure your Adobe Reader software is up-to-date and if necessary uninstall and reinstall. Hope that helps!

    Best wishes,
