Challenging Opportunities for experienced TEFL teachers and trainers with VSO

VSO has many placements overseas for experienced TEFL teachers to work in teacher training, curriculum development, and materials design as well as language upgrading.
Opportunities exist in Africa, Asia and The Pacific.All placements offer a unique experience – a chance to share skills, learn about a new culture and integrate into a community. Departures are in Jan-Feb / April – June and Aug-Sept.

Mozambique – English teacher trainer
A degree and TEFL qualification with 2 years' teaching experience is required for this placement. Duties include teaching English to students at a secondary school and engaging in in-service teacher training with teachers in surrounding schools in order to build the capacity of colleagues. The teacher trainer should also become informed about HIV/AIDS issues in order to work with colleagues to identify and implement appropriate HIV/AIDS related activities aimed at promoting awareness of issues amongst students.
Nepal – English teacher trainer
A trained English teacher (BA plus PGCE or TEFL) with at least one years' teaching experience is required for this placement. Key duties include co-teaching English language and some literature at secondary school level, developing improved teaching materials using low cost locally available resources and undertaking informal in service teacher training with teachers at the base school and local feeder schools.
Ethiopia – teacher trainer
A degree plus a TEFL or QTS and 2 years' experience is required. Based in a teacher training college in a provincial town, duties are split between improving the English of students who will go on to teach English in secondary schools and visiting local schools to observe classes and to constructively feed back to the teachers. The teacher trainer will also devise workshops for serving teachers to meet identified training needs, working as part of a VSO team which is working at all levels from ministry to secondary school placements.
Cambodia – English teacher trainer
A TEFL or QTS qualification with 2 years' teaching experience is required for this placement. Duties include upgrading language skills of teachers in several schools in the province, organizing training courses on the use of new textbooks, new developments in examining, supervizing resources centres, etc. Also working with the Provincial Office of Education to support development of the educational system.
Mongolia – secondary school English teachers
TEFL trained and experienced teachers or PGCE trained and experienced language teachers are needed. Key duties: Teach English to the senior secondary school pupils, work with existing local English teachers to upgrade their language skills, offer English lessons to other teachers and members of the community as appropriate and ‘beg, buy or make teaching aids, books and materials!
Rwanda – teacher trainer
Degree+TEFL/Bed/PGCE with some teaching experience is required for this position at a secondary school teacher training college. Duties include planning and teaching an intensive English course for Francophone secondary school graduates; devising schemes of work; language upgrading; assessing and evaluating students’ work.
Papua New Guinea – secondary school teacher
Newly qualified TEFL or secondary school teacher. Key duties include teaching English in rural secondary schools, developing resources, working with national staff members, and organizing extra-curricular activities such as sports.
Indonesia – English teacher/trainer
TEFL teacher with at least six months' experience. Key duties include teaching English at upper secondary level, working alongside English teachers and running short courses and workshops to develop training methodologies, including lesson planning and material development.
Sri Lanka – Teacher for staff at non-governmental organizations
A TEFL qualification and 2 years' experience is required, with some experience of lesson design and teaching adults an added benefit. Duties include; formulating ELT programmes for NGO staff, identifying learning needs, conducting tests, preparing lesson material, being a resource person and helping with project proposals, reports and other documents in English.
