Access to the Staff Room will cost only £32 for a year's subscription. This is great value. Subscriptions can also be bought in Euros (€52) and US Dollars ($64). You will be able to subscribe using our secure credit card payment facility.

Anchor Point:3What has changed on onestopenglish?

Perhaps you were familiar with the old onestopenglish site and are wondering why we have changed it now?

Before the new site was launched in August 2006, onestopenglish was based on a 'flat' database. This meant that each page was given a category (such as 'Grammar' or 'Business and ESP') and could be browsed by clicking on that section. If you wanted to access a sub-section, you would have to click through various hierarchical sections to find it.

This structure meant that only a limited amount of material could be put up on onestopenglish at any one time, otherwise users would be scrolling and clicking forever. Each month we changed the material we made available and therefore provided a variety of material over time.

For a long time we have wanted to provide more material for users on a permanent basis and to make it possible to access that material in a more systematic and logical way. We have done this by investing in a 'content management system'. This has structured the database material and includes a search facility which enables users to specify what they are looking for. Another item on our wish-list was to provide more news lessons, which are amongst the most popular items on onestopenglish.

Both these changes are expensive and require a small fee (£32 for a year's subscription) for those who wish to take advantage of them. The rest of onestopenglish remains exactly as it was. The former sections of the site, listed down the left hand side, remain, and they can be browsed and clicked through in the same way as before.
