Energy animations
Students learn how oil and gas were formed over two million years ago.
Oil and gas were formed when the bodies of tiny plants and creatures in the sea were covered by sand and mud and subjected to increasing pressure and temperature over time. Students see for themselves this process in action and practise using key vocabulary and the past simple to describe a sequence of events.

This presentation features a narrated animation from the Science Museum showing exactly how oil and gas were formed from tiny plants and animals. A separate worksheet and set of teacher's notes shows you how best to exploit the language and content of this animation in the classroom.
Type: general lesson plan
Students answer comprehension questions about the oil and gas animation, talk about the process of making oil and gas using speaking-prompts and complete a gap-fill exercise. Extensive teacher's notes give whole class and group variation activities and highlight the grammar used to describe past events.
