This activity works well because it is creative without being overly demanding, and it has the effect of making students feel important by raising the ordinary, day-to-day events of their lives to the status of headlines.

Procedure

  • Prepare a newspaper-style headline relating to yourself and write it on the board. Examples might be 'Local man to enjoy evening out' or 'Teacher in broken alarm clock drama'.
  • Students work in pairs to guess what the contents of the 'story' might be, or take it in turns to ask you yes/no questions in order to find out the details. Students then write a headline relating to themselves, and ask each other questions to find out more.
